When a family shows up smiling before we even start, you know you are in for something good.
That was Nathalie and Eric at Pipers Lagoon with their two boys, Bodhi and Lenny, and their sweet dog Kona. The afternoon light was perfect, the water was shimmery, and their whole presence carried this warm and easy energy that made the session feel relaxed from the beginning.
The first thing I noticed was how naturally they moved together. Nothing felt posed or stiff. The boys ran ahead with fearless kid confidence, and Nathalie and Eric followed with so much patience and joy. Lenny is such a joy-filled little man who loves keeping up with his big brother. He was full of smiles even after a few tumbles. He has a special bond with Kona and it was so clear in the way she stayed close to him through most of the afternoon.
I asked Nathalie what moment in time she would freeze if she could. She described a summer evening with Bodhi on her lap, sharing a pear from their tree, Eric playing the flute, Lenny driving his black truck through the grass, and Kona soaking up the sun while birds chirped in the background. Warm air. Stillness. During the session, I invited the family to play ring around the rosie and when everyone tumbled to the ground and settled into the grass, I could feel the same bliss Nathalie described. A simple moment of being together and feeling grounded by the earth. These quiet pockets of calm appear so naturally when families feel safe and relaxed.
Throughout the session, it was clear how proud Nathalie and Eric are of their boys. They want to raise curious little world travellers who explore, learn, and take in the world with open minds. Even in our short time together, I could see how much heart they pour into parenting. Their boys are already becoming such amazing little humans.
